Karmen Bennett, LPC

Meet Karmen

Karmen Bennet is a Licensed Professional Counselor and earned her Master of Education in Counseling degree in 2011 from Stephens College. Karmen’s clinical interests and experiences include working with children, adolescents, and adults. A client-centered approach influences Karmen’s work with clients, which means that she believes that everyone has what they need within them to actualize their potential. As such, Karmen sees every client as the expert of themselves and their needs, and therapy is a collaborative process. Karmen works with each client to establish goals together, and takes each person’s values, beliefs, and culture into consideration when deciding what techniques and interventions to use in sessions.

Karmen specializes in treating developmental/complex trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and has experience working with a variety of other mental health issues including depression, anxiety, gender dysphoria, stress management, family relationships, attachment, and parenting. Karmen is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based treatment for trauma. Karmen also has specialized training in play therapy; Somatic Experiencing, a body-based approach to healing trauma; Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART), a treatment that uses sensorimotor input for emotional and physiological regulation; and Theraplay, an attachment-based treatment for parents and children.
