Dr. Sydney Young, M.D., LPC
Meet Sydney
Dr. Young takes a mind-body approach to the therapeutic process. She has advanced certification in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) and specializes in working with clients who have medically unexplained symptoms and psychophysiologic disorders (PPDs). This includes (but is in no way limited to) chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and Functional Neurological Disorder. Dr. Young is also certified in the Safe and Sound Protocol, an intervention that can increase one's capacity to feel safe and less overwhelmed.
A foundational aspect of Dr. Young’s approach with clients is a sound understanding of neurophysiology. The mind-body connection is a two-way street, and understanding this is imperative to providing clients with the tools they need to leverage their innate ability to heal from physical and emotional stress/trauma.
Dr. Young's educational background includes graduating summa cum laude from Truman State University where she studied Psychology and Kinesiology and then earning her M.D. from the University of Missouri. Ultimately, Dr. Young desired a more collaborative relationship with her clients than was possible within the medical standard of 15 minutes every few months. Her fascination with the mind-body connection and how to harness that connection for greater health and well-being eventually led her to pursue a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and certification in PRT.
More about PRT: Rooted in neuroscience, Pain Reprocessing Therapy is an evidence-based modality that aims to rewire neural pathways in the brain in order to deactivate pain. This approach is also helpful for other PPDs (see below).

More about PPDs: One in six adults suffer from medically unexplained symptoms or chronic functional syndromes. These conditions can impact any area of the body, but include migraine, fibromyalgia, joint pain, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Functional Neurological Disorder, among others. https://ppdassociation.org/starthere
