Elizabeth Buko, PLPC

Meet Elizabeth

I graduated with my Masters of Education in Counseling at Stephens College in December 2022, and I completed my practicum and internship experience with CLA in the same year. I work under the supervision of Karmen Bennett, LPC. I have spent nearly twenty years in secondary school education teaching English and working with adolescents on career and college planning.  Observing the trend of increasing stress, anxiety, and depression in teens, I am thrilled to make the transition into clinical counseling work to better meet the social and emotional needs of young people.

A member of the LGBTQIA community, I strive to offer an inclusive and safe space for people of all ages to explore their intersectional identities. I work from a Feminist theoretical orientation that’s client-centered and considerate of cultural contexts. I work to bring awareness to the social constructs that interfere with our path to truly knowing ourselves. I believe that societal expectations play a direct role in the formation of our identities, especially with regards to nondominant members. Cognitive Behavioral Theory is also a part of my work operating on the belief that our childhood experiences have a direct impact on how we function in the world. The cognitions or thinking patterns that we form in childhood and adolescence become the ways we function as adults.
