Marisa Collado
Meet Marisa
Originally hailing from the New York metropolitan area, Marisa moved to Columbia in 2019 after graduating from the University of Hartford in Connecticut with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts with a concentration in ceramics. Currently in her final year of pursuing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Stephens College, Marisa’s interests lie in integrating creativity into the therapeutic process, particularly in regards to healing from trauma, managing grief, and coping with feelings of anxiety and depression.
Marisa practices from a client-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and feminist perspective. She believes that the client is the expert in their own life, that an individual’s perspective is shaped by the experiences they have had throughout their life as part of broader systems in society, and that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are strongly interconnected. Marisa strongly believes in the effectiveness of building a strong client-counselor relationship and strives to empower her clients to feel confident in making the changes they want to see in their lives, as well as helping to explore and practice coping skills that clients will feel comfortable using in their day-to-day experience.
